Shoes and bags have been destroyed by mold as the store was forced to close down two months ago because of coronavirus outbreak.
The photos of leather products were taken in a shopping center in Malaysia as the country gets ready for its third month of lockdown.
In the photos, which have been shared more than 44,000 times, leather belts, bags, shoes and other products can be seen ruined by mold as they were left untouched for two months.
One bag with a price tag of $155 is fully covered in mold. Some reports suggest the damage occurred because the air conditioning units were off in the store for a long time.
One internet user commented: “It’s shockingly relevant the world over and will affect businesses worldwide. Good job in bringing awareness.”
Another wrote: “I have lots of high quality leather items and it gets very humid where I live, but haven’t ever seen this happen.”
A third said: “Probably have damp in the store for this to happen, I have leather shoes that haven’t been worn in a couple of years and no sign of mould.”
Soneone else wrote: “Can ask them to sell at very very low low price?”
The country’s movement control order started on March 18 and extended until June 9.
It is not clear where in the country the photos were taken but some people have said it was in Sabah.
Leather products are prone to mildew and mold growth if kept in areas where heat and moisture levels are high. These products should be kept at a humidity of 40 to 60 percent and at room temperature. It is also important to have adequate air circulation.
