Jennifer Kimes has been working at a resell store, Plato’s Closet in Valparaiso, Indiana and she was panicked when she discovered $7,000 inside the pocket of a coat dropped off at the store earlier that day.
Jennifer said: ”It just scared me, it made me nervous. I mean, you know, everybody wants to hold a wad of cash. But it wasn’t mine, so I didn’t get too excited about it.”
She had never experienced such a thing in all these years while working at the store.
“We found 50 cents, a dollar, ChapStick, a little note, a piece of gum, something like, but never $7,000,” she told Fox News.
She called storeowner Tammy Wendland to inform about it.
Tammy said: “I just knew that we needed to take great care of it so we can properly give it back to the owner.”
“As it turns out, it was $6,000 in hundreds and $1,000 in twenties… we just don’t see that.”
Jennifer claimed that she was sure that she needed to return the cash to its owner.
She said: ”I can’t imagine losing that much money,“I was shocked. I am just really glad we thoroughly check everything.”
Next day, the cash was returned by Tammy, who said it belonged to a storeowner nearby.
Tammy recalled: “He indicated to me, ‘I know what you have,’ and I said to him, ”What do I have?”
“I was really grateful that he knew what I had because it absolutely put my mind at ease that it was going to the right person.”
Tammy praised Jennifer for her honesty and said, “I am grateful that she is always what I thought she was, what I expected her to be, that she has very high integrity,”
“Doing the right thing is rewarding intrinsically. It makes you feel good inside to do the right thing and there’s really nothing as special as feeling good inside.”
Jennifer said: “It’s just about integrity. So when you work with things like this, you just have to make sure that you’re honest and that you do the right thing.”
