A shopper was seen in a video gargling mouthwash before spitting it back into the container and placing it back to the shelf.
In the viral video that happened in Walmart, Bameron Nicole Smith is walking into the frame saying: “Girl, it has been one musty fu***** morning.”
Smith opened a bottle of mouthwash, gargled Listerine and spat the liquid back into the bottle. She then said: “Mmm, nice and minty and fresh” before waving “thank you guys.”
The video captioned, “you bitches with no oral hygiene could take a hint” and gained more than 15 million views.
Some internet users thought it was staged as Smith didn’t look like she had to break a seal. It is not clear whether she removed and paid for the bottle but a post on Twitter joked: “Walmart loss prevention chasing me out like”
Her video caused people to complain that the act is a crime.
One person commented: “Another one for prison. Hope you have fun with your new inmate friends.” Smith replied: “I LOOKED IN THE CELL NEXT TO ME AND ITS THE ICE CREAM GIRL.”
It seems to be the same individuals behind a prank of licking ice cream before placing it back into the freezer.
Smith’s friend, a YouTuber named Larz, wrote on Twitter: “I started the trend of opening products without buying them.”
Blue Bell Creameries ice cream said in a statement: “We want to thank our consumers for alerting us to the recent food tampering incident. We take this issue very seriously and are currently working with law enforcement, retail partners and social media platforms. This type of incident will not be tolerated.
“Food safety is a top priority, and we work hard to provide a safe product and maintain the highest level of confidence from our consumers.
“During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to the lid creating a natural seal. The lids are frozen tightly to the carton. Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable. We will continue to monitor this situation.”
Walmart told DailyMail that they are investigating the incident. “If someone tampers with a product and leaves it on the shelf, we will work with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those found responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”
