Angry shoppers lashed out at “disgusting” vegan activists who positioned themselves in front of the meat section of a supermarket in an attempt to block people from buying meat products.
The incident occurred in Auckland, New Zealand, where Countdown shoppers were stunned to come across several vegans who were holding up various signs that read things such as “it’s not food it’s violence” and “stop eating animals.”
The protest was organized by animal rights activist Amanda Rippo who insisted that their approach was entirely peaceful.
“We are here on a peaceful protest for the victims who don’t get seen or heard behind closed doors and are lying dead behind us now,” Amanda is heard saying in the footage.
However, at the same time, she also admitted that the group didn’t have permission to be in the supermarket in the first place.
Despite their efforts to stop people from buying meat products, the activists were faced with a lot of resistance, whereas several people lashed out at them and branded them “disgusting.”
“Get out of my face. I’m disgusted you guys are even here in my supermarket when I’m buying my food. You disgust me,” one upset shopper yelled back at the vegans.
“Take your camera off me! I’m doing my f***ing shopping! I’m doing my shopping lady, unless you’re going to pay for my shopping you can f*** off,” another one said.
Following the incident going viral, the Countdown representative spoke out and said:
“As a supermarket we work hard to provide our vegan and vegetarian customers with good quality and affordable options in our stores, and we are also deeply committed to good animal welfare practices throughout our supply chain.
“We reserve the right to ask anyone undertaking protest action to leave our stores, however on this occasion this request was ignored several times.
“The police were called to support our team and the protesters left shortly afterward.”
