A dying father-of-four with terminal cancer had his final wish granted as the paramedics made a detour and allowed him to see the sea for one last time before taking him home to die.
In an emotional photo, 45-year-old Chris Shaw, a loving father, and a gentle husband, is seen holding back his tears as he gazes at the sea for the last time.
Mr. Shaw had been fighting terminal stomach cancer for over a year before passing away on August 31, 2018, leaving behind his four children and his wife, Kylie.
To honor the kind man on his first anniversary of death, Kylie shared the heartbreaking photo along with the story including two paramedics from Perth, Australia, who made sure her husband’s final wish was fulfilled.
As the grieving wife explained, she pleaded with the transport officers to take a beach detour to allow her husband to “feel the sun and breeze on his body.” As she added, she wanted her husband to feel normal at his favorite beach before being taken home where he was set to pass away.
“We’re an ocean family and this is our favorite beach. It was the tiniest gesture but it meant the world. They were our angels that day,” Kylie said in an interview with The West Australian.
“We spent so many family moments at that beach. We’d sit down and have a Corona, the kids would run around and we’d watch the sunset.”
Taking her heart-wrenching story to Facebook, Ms. Shaw also explained that her husband had given her his bucket list before passing away in hopes that she could achieve his unfulfilled plans.
“Some are easy to do and some a long term, some I have achieved, some I’m working on and some are work in progress. One of those is to try and bring as much awareness about the No Stomach for Cancer charity,” she wrote.
To be true to her promise, Kylie shared her devastating story and highlighted the dire consequences of stomach cancer on her husband’s first death anniversary.
