The sick baby giraffe that was being taken care of after it was found abandoned has passed away surrounded by its best friend, a loving dog who befriended the distressed calf.
Jazz the Giraffe was just days old when he was found abandoned in the rough terrain with little chances of survival.
After The Rhino Orphanage from South Africa took the calf under their wing, they quickly realized that the animal wasn’t feeling well and had problems registering what’s going on around him.
Unfortunately, the shelter has now announced that Jazz had passed away from brain hemorrhage before he could get the chance to go into the wilderness again.
“The last two days before we lost him, Jazz started looking unstable on his legs and very dull, almost like he wasn’t registering everything. He suddenly collapsed and we could see blood starting to pool back into his eyes,” they wrote.
On the good side, Jazz met a good friend, a watchdog named Hunter, who spent his free time around the giraffe as if the two were family.
According to the animal orphanage, Hunter positioned himself next to Jazz and stayed there for hours “for comfort” even during the calf’s final moments.
“So we finally know that Jazz didn’t have a bad giraffe mother that left him. She just knew … But we still have to try every single time (to help) no matter how hard it is,” Founder Arrie van Deventer added.
While Jazz’s time on this planet was very limited, he had the chance to make best friends with a dog and show the world what love is all about. Rest in peace, Jazz.
