According to a recent statement by Matt Hancock, the health secretary, the schemes focuses on recruiting 250,000 volunteers in total. And as of now, it seems that the goal will be fulfilled soon.

Those who will volunteer will be asked to provide help to the people who cannot help themselves efficiently through the coronavirus crisis and provide support to the local services as well as the NHS services who would be overwhelmed otherwise during this tough time.

Matt Hancock said that volunteers would be required to pitch in by helping with delivery and shopping of medicines and to support the people who are shielded to guard their own health.

Matt also added that NHS Volunteer Responders is a new scheme introduced so that people can come forward and help and ensure that the local and NHS services are provided sufficient aid and support.

Announcing the appeal on NHS website through an article, the GP, NHS director of the primary care, Dr. Nikki Kanani said that coronavirus is the largest challenge the country has ever faced and this is why they are rallying the troops as well as telling the public that their NHS needs them.

The article further explained that it is the one-in-a-lifetime moment where even a single action from a person can make a life-changing difference to other people, and a simple act of kindness will make all the difference to keep people healthy and eventually keep them out of hospitals.
