Coronavirus outbreak has forced people to remain indoors and not step out unnecessarily.
Governments of various countries have imposed a complete lockdown. This means that something as basic as getting food can be problematic for some people.
To offer services to those, a group of selfless Sikh volunteers has begun their free home delivery service amidst the Covid-19 crisis.
The volunteers announced the other day that they would be giving and delivering free food to the self-isolated population in the south-east area of Melbourne for the next 2 weeks.
Jaswinder Singh, one of the founders of this charity, said that the group was expecting three-hundred orders for their initial round of deliveries.
The non-profit organization came to being in 2017 and 103 members constitute it. These people volunteer alongside working regular jobs.
Mr. Singh said that they offer free food normally twice a week in the area for suburbs. He added that last time they had extended their regular services for bushfires and now, they are doing it again for the virus.
He revealed that notice for the service on Facebook has crossed more than 200 orders since it had been put up.
Apparently, some of those orders were placed by disabled and sick and they received several messages from those people who were stressed and have self-isolated themselves.
Jaswinder Singh also noted that their service also provided vegetarian food options and customers could choose from whatever they wanted from the menu on their Facebook page.
As per the Facebook advertisements, the orders need to be placed before 12 pm and the deliveries would be made from 6 pm to 8 pm.
These Sikh volunteers are highly renowned in the community owning to their selfless effort co-operating with local business owners at the time of the Bushfire crisis in Victoria.
