A Google engineer claimed in a podcast interview that Google hires whitest black candidates.
Bria Sullivan who is a mobile app developer has worked with tech companies including Google. Earlier, she worked with Microsoft.
Jamarlin Martin who hosted the podcast questioned about the Cambridge Analytics scandal involving Facebook and the way it was attacked by Congressional Black Caucus calling out the company’s diversity problem.
Martin noted that how Sheryl Sandberg had a meeting with the caucus to determine solutions to their diversity issues and told reporters that an African-American was being brought to the board.
Facebook then hired the former CEO of AmEx, Kenneth Chenault.
Both Sullivan and Martin talked about their beliefs that Silicon Valley has Clearance Thomas problem, which means that the Supreme Court Justice will be to the right of a lot of white racists.
Sullivan then responded by saying that she thinks that a lot of decisions taken in Silicon Vallery are copouts. She added that she feels that they are patches to a real solution.
Sullivan also mentioned that she has an issue with Silicon Valley employing the whitest black candidate. She said that they have a hiring problem and ask for a white person without realizing, and mostly white people qualify according to the given criteria.
Sullivan expressed her problem with the practice by saying that they have not changed anything about what they are looking for.
However, she is hoping to change the way employees are hired in Google. She said that she has a course for non-technical startup founders right now to help them in hiring technical talent better.
She is also helping them to navigate the tech space as they do not have that technical knowledge.
Talking about the culture at Microsoft, she claimed that the company had gender and racial microaggression all the time.
