Seeing Simon Cowell in tears on screen is not a usual scene.
He normally has a poker face, difficult to read. However, he was witnessed in tears on-camera during the live finale of The X Factor.
Simon broke into tears after listening to The X Factor’s next charity single, a remake of Snow Patrol’s song ‘Run.’ His girlfriend Lauren Silverman ran to the podium to hug him as he started shedding tears.
The exact reason of Simon crying on stage is still unknown.
He is known for his charitable work which includes payments for children’s surgeries and funding a number of young people’s hospital charges.
After the cover of Sow Patrol’s ‘Run’ played, the show’s presenter Dermot O’Leary turned to Simon to have his views on the song, only to find the father-of-one out of words and in tears.
Simon just lifted his hands up, covered his eyes, and cried.
As he started crying, Nicole Scherzinger put her hands on his arm to soothe him as Lauren got up and moved to the stage to hug her boyfriend from behind.
Dermot realized it would take Simon a while to recompose himself so he subtly transferred to the next section of the show, giving the judge time to console himself.
Parts of the song were recorded by all the finalists including Jenny Ryan, Max and Harvey, V5 and winner Megan McKenna while a heart-touching gray-scale video was playing on the set.
The video consisted of the show’s finalists having a fun time with kids at the Shooting Star House which is a hospice for minors with terminal illnesses.
Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices will be the beneficiaries of the charity money raised by the song which can now be bought from a number of music providers.
This was the first time that the final of Celebrity X Factor was a group effort rather than a solo as it used to be in the previous years.
Ben Foden, 34, from Try Star told The Sun: “Charity singles are always so iconic. It’s a lovely memory for us to have but more importantly, we’re all doing this for a fantastic cause.”
Twenty-one-year-old Wes Nelson added: “We’ve seen some absolutely amazing charity singles over the years and to be part of that is surreal. It’s something that makes a difference.
“Yes, X Factor was great and it meant a lot, but I think this is one of the most meaningful things you can do with music.”
Megan McKenna the TOWIE star won this year’s two-hour-long finale of the show.
Twenty-seven-year-old Megan beat other contestants by performing Leona Lewis’s ‘One More Sleep’s cover and a cover of her own song ‘This.’
