The Simpsons is hands down among the greatest TV shows to ever be.
Usually, a game based on a TV show doesn’t always share the same amount of appreciation and response, but that’s not the case with The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
It was a great game just like the TV show. Released around 16 years back, millions of its copies were sold all across the world.
People spent millions of hours playing the game, which started with driving around in Springfield and involved unearthing an alien conspiracy later on.
The good news is, the creator of this amazing video game, Vlad Ceraldi, has recently revealed that he thinks the game might get a makeover.
Speaking to LADbible, Vlad said: “I could see it on multiple different types of platforms as a remake or remaster.
“It would have to take the parties who are in charge of the property to want that to happen and someone out there to decide that they were going to go out and do it.
“But absolutely, it would be fun to explore those characters and that universe again, that work again.”
Vlad, now the director of development with Hothead Games, said he always knew the game would be a phenomenal success.
He said: “As far as why it stood the test of time, I think it’s a game that kids could play, adults could play, anyone who was fans of the show could try and laugh and have fun with.
“When you make something, sometimes you know you’ve made something special.
“This was one of the ones that we knew we hit the mark. We didn’t know it was going to sell as well as it did – we had high hopes, but it definitely hit its expectations.”
The consistent success of the game during all those years makes Vlad feel proud of his creation – and a bit old, if we were to factor in his age.
He added: “I remember interviewing somebody for one of our games – they didn’t know that I worked on The Simpsons: Hit & Run. They were going on about one of their favorite games of all time and ended up saying at the end that it was The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
“How much joy they had when they opened it up on Christmas morning and put it in and they ended up playing it all Christmas. They’re telling this story and then say they were six-years-old.
“It makes you feel old, but it was also interesting seeing this young new employee of our company, he’s starting his career.”
The concept of remaking the game is still an idea discussed only over some glasses of beer but Vlad believes that the game holds a profound scope of advancement and revamping.
“It’s come up before in discussions but not seriously, usually at the pub, just talking about the idea of some of the magic that was captured and the potential ability to recapture it in a new way with a different audience, with a different generation of devices,” he said.
“There was joy in the making of it as well as obviously the fans playing it – that doesn’t always happen but it certainly happened with that game. We had our doubts that it would work out the way we hoped but obviously it did.
“There’s masters out there like Nintendo and other companies who have nailed it time and time again, so it would be wonderful to reinvest in how you can control the characters, how you can control the world, how much of the world you can explore in detail.
“So there’s a lot more fidelity you can go for as far as content exploration than we were able to do in that particular era. There were a lot of references put into the game but we didn’t get everything. There’s a lot more things that could be done and that would be fascinating for sure.”
