Jason Weaver, the singer who voiced young Simba in Disney’s animated Lion King film, has explained why he turned down the $2 million flat fee.

He told Vlad TV that he was originally offered $2 million but his mother recommended that he turn it down and opt for royalties instead.

This means that he will keep on getting cash for more than 20 years, and that’s a very smart move!

Weaver ended up with $100,000 upfront and an ongoing cash that will be more than the original $2 million offer.

“I remember it was like $2 million,” Weaver said. “You gotta remember, they’re coming off of Beauty and the Beast. They’re coming off of Aladdin. Disney had bread.”

He provided the vocals for some Disney bangers, including ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King,’ and ‘Hakuna Matata.’

“Disney had a reputation for re-releasing stuff. I think at that time they had put out Sleeping Beauty and some of their old catalogue from when Walt Disney was alive,” he added.

“They were releasing that stuff when they were releasing the new Disney stuff, so she [his mum] was able to see the playing field and go, ‘Wait a minute, this is going to make a lot of money over time, so what happens when my son turns 40? Is he going to be able to get a check for this when they eventually re-release this.”

His smart decision will get him more than the initial salary offer but he didn’t mention exactly how much! All thanks to his mother who told him to opt for royalties instead.
