A single mother has passed away just weeks before Christmas after persistent cough she believed to be caused by a simple infection turned out to be a symptom of lung cancer.
38-year-old UK-based Jane Brogan’s life turned upside down after she paid a visit to her doctor only to find out that her cough was caused by Stage 4 lung cancer and that she didn’t have much time left.
Unfortunately, the mum-of-three passed away just days before the doctors would have the chance to consider the best next step actions.
“We’re devastated. We thought we’d get one last Christmas. From diagnosis to her passing away has only been six weeks. It’s really difficult- everyone’s struggling with it. She’d started buying the children Christmas presents,” Jane’s sister, Julie, said.
As Julie revealed, Jane had already started buying Christmas presents for her children, Thomas, 5, Elena, 7, and Molly, 14, in hopes that she would get the chance to hand them over in person.
While the family already made plans to move the Christmas celebration to an earlier date, their efforts were in vain as Jane passed away sooner than expected.
“Jane was a much loved mam, daughter, sister, auntie and great auntie. She loved her friends, music, animals and, more recently, cakes,” the grieving family wrote in a statement.
“She was most devastated about leaving her children behind and missing out on them growing up, and key milestones in their lives.”
