We know the fact that women were never allowed in the military forces.
It was back in the 18th century that women first became a part of the forces as Nurse Corps officially. Before that, there were women in the army but in disguise.
It is a proud moment for both, 53 years old Major General Maria Barrett, and 5 years old Brigadier General Paula Lodi, as well as the US Army and their families.
Ryan McCarthy, Acting Army Secretary said: “This news would not come as a surprise for the people who know them but it is surely a moment to be proud for the army and their families.”
Till 2015, women were not offered any high ranking positions in the army but it changed and now about 16% of majors in the army are women.
The sisters said “This is a very proud moment for us. We never had a plan to get on the position we are on today but we cannot be more proud of what we have been blessed and what we have achieved. This is the highest level of respect we have had in our lives.
Back when we were in high school we were both in the sports team together. We had no idea that almost 30 years later we will stand in the same position again.
Our family is happy and proud and we are proud.”
Barrett said “I got into the forces because I needed money. I could have trained and with whatever the little money I got out of it, I wanted to use it to pay my education fee.
But it turns out, I started to enjoy what I did here and so I decided to stay for a little longer.
