The foster care system provides a large number of children with a temporary custody under a responsible guardian before these kids can either be reconciled with their parents or be adopted by primary caretakers.
In most of the cases the guardians of the children end up being the adoptive parents of the children. In the United States of America alone, there are more than 400,000 kids in foster care with the average age of a foster child being a little under 10.
Although the foster care system is a helpful resource for many children, they do have some disadvantages. In a lot of cases, there are siblings of the same family who are in foster care.
Now many times it happens that a few of these kids find adoptive parents while the others are left to be with their guardians. This results in the siblings getting separated from each other.
Steve and Rob Anderson-McLean understood this problem and tried to better the situation of one such group of siblings who were in the foster care system for around 5 years.
Steve and Rob, a same-sex couple from the city of Pittsburg adopted a group of six siblings after looking at their photos.
The siblings comprised children from ages 7 to 14, who were previously under the care of foster parents. Even though Steve had 2 children from a previous marriage, they just knew that these six children need to stay under the same roof with them.
Being foster kids, the two parents thought it would be difficult to connect with the kids at first but realized that it was not at all the case.
In fact, it is heartwarming to know that just after staying a week with Steve and Rob, the kids were asking them if they could live together forever.
The children had never previously received so much care and love from any sort of parental figures in their lives. Even playing in the backyard or a simple visit to the zoo was a new experience for them.
It is clear from this that Steve and Rob are going to be great parents to this bunch of happy kids.
