Danny Goldman, a Hollywood actor who lent his voice to the fictional character Brainy Smurf, has passed away at the age of 80.
According to TMZ, Mr. Goldman, who was well-known for his roles in The Smurfs, Young Frankenstein, The Missouri Breaks, Where the Buffalo Roam, and more, died surrounded by his friends and family on Sunday.
As the man’s agent Doug Ely allegedly confirmed, the 80-year-old was in hospice following two strokes that occurred around New Year’s Eve.
In a touching tribute to the actor, voice actor, and casting director, Mr. Ely dubbed Goldman a “one of a kind” person with “a huge heart.”
“Danny was truly one of a kind. He always had strong opinions and didn’t mind telling you about them,” the agent wrote.
“He was incredibly funny. He loved to root for the little guy and help wherever he could. He had a huge heart. We lost a good one today. He will be missed.”
Mr. Goldman was best known for his appearance in The Smurfs where he gave voice to the Brainy Smurf, a blue-skinned fictional character with thick glasses who claimed to be the smartest of his kind in his village.
The American-Belgian animated comedy series became an instant hit in the 80s with several remakes and spinoffs following decades later.
Before his appearance in The Smurfs, the actor appeared in the likes of General Hospital (1963), That Girl (1969), MASH (1970), The Good Life (1971), and Young Frankenstein (1974).
Goldman’s final appearance on the big screens was between the years 2011 and 2012 when he played Det. Zablonsky in crime series Criminal Minds.
