Last week, the US has seen the lowest temperatures ever for the month of May in a very long time.
According to a report by the Weather Channel, some parts of northern New England might get more than half a foot of wet, heavy snow starting Friday, May 8.
According to the Washington Post, it is also possible that some parts of Pennsylvania might get nearly an inch of slushy snow.
Steady snow might also strike between Albany and Binghamton in New York as well as central and southern Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire.
The Weather Channel has further warned that the immense weight of all that snow coupled with the intense expected winds might cause damage to trees and power outages in the affected areas.
The Washington Post has also warned that North Georgia and high elevation areas of the Carolinas might get some frost.
Overall, temperatures across the US are expected to be 10 to 25 degrees cooler than typical May climate. In fact, this May might feel more like March to many.
Cities like Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Indianapolis might see temperatures below 29 degrees. If that happens, that would be the record low temperature to ever be recorded in May in these cities.
Other than these, the cities like Boston, Connecticut, Hartford, and Rhode Island might also see the lowest temperatures of the known history.
The cold temperature can even extend to Mississippi and Alabama, as reported by the Washington Post. Tennessee and the Carolinas are expected to see low temperatures ranging in the 30’s.
According to a report by NBC News, the dive in the temperatures is going to be caused by a storm system that’s moving towards the Northeast and will collide with the cold arctic air because of the polar vortexes.
