Nick Kyrgios may be known as the man with a temper but Australia’s sporting bad boy showed his soft side during his Wimbledon match when he comforted a ball girl he hit on the arm with a booming 217km/h serve.
The controversial tennis star from Canberra who was fined $24,000 last month for imitating a sex act with a water bottle during a match was seen comforting the ball girl who burst into tears when the ball struck ferociously on her upper arm.
The incident happened during Nick’s first-round Wimbledon win against Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin.
The ferocious ace raced past Denis and struck the girl. Denis immediately turned to comfort the girl before Nick walked towards her and apologized.
It was a marathon match that lasted for more than two hours with Australia’s title hope winning it by 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (5-7) 6-3. After the match, he said that it was a tough game and admitted that he didn’t play anywhere near his best gameplay.
Nick next faces Robin Haase from the Netherlands and said that this time he doesn’t want to make the same mistake as he did in his first match. He admitted that despite improving his focus towards the game, he still finds it difficult to control his emotions on the court.
