Army Lt.
Col. Robert Risdon was about to grab some dinner at a Taco Bell in Alabama when two young boys came into the restaurant.
He noticed the boys who were hungry and wet, and asked them if they already ate dinner. The boys said they didn’t. Lt. Col. Risdon was not aware he was being watched by another customer who recorded the sweet incident.
When the boys, aged 9 and 13, said they hadn’t eaten dinner, he took it upon himself and went above.
The boys had been left alone at the restaurant to sell some items from home. They were selling homemade desserts hoping to raise money for their local church. But Army Lt. Col. Risdon didn’t have cash on him at that time.
What he did next was caught on camera by Jason Gibson.
Jason shared the incident on Facebook and wrote: “I was in a taco bell tonight when two kids came in trying to sell home made desserts for money.
“I over heard a soldier ask the kids if they were hungry and told them to follow him to the counter, he would buy them dinner. I had to video it and share. Our troops are always taking care of us. Thank u LTC Robert Risdon please please share this….I heard the little one say I want to be just like u when I grow up and saluted him.”
With hearts full of gratitude for the soldier, the two boys danced around as they waited for their meals.
Aside from buying tacos and beverages for the children, Risdon also had a friendly conversation with them. After Jason shared the footage on Facebook, the soldier’s act of kindness quickly went viral.
He told The Huffington Post: “Im kinda embarrassed and humbled by the praise and don’t need it. I am a believer that we live in the best country in the world with the best people and that acts of kindness happen every day.”
