A Fort Bragg soldier killed his pregnant wife before taking his own life in a horrific murder-suicide.
The tragic incident took place in North Carolina where 31-year-old Sergeant Keith Lewis shot his 34-year-old wife, Sarah Lewis, before taking his own life.
As WRAL reported, the couple lost their lives in Fayetteville on Sunday, whereas the Army Special Operations Command soldier shot his wife while their 3-year-old daughter was present at their home.
According to the reports, the husband and wife were expecting their fourth child on Christmas. After shooting his wife, the soldier, who reportedly suffered from PTSD, turned the gun on himself.
As one witness told WRAL, Keith was still alive when the police arrived at the house. “When the police came, they were talking to him for about 15 minutes,” he said.
While the soldier was pronounced dead on the scene, Sarah was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, however, both the mother and her unborn daughter passed away at the hospital.
“We heard the gunshots. Immediately [my boyfriend] was like, ‘You know someone just died. You don’t shoot that many gunshots and not try to kill somebody,’” recalled Emilia Rivera, the couple’s neighbor, who was at her home with her partner at the time of the shooting.
According to the mother’s aunt, Tammy De Mirza, Keith previously threatened his wife in 2016 after a drinking session turned violent.
“This guy had PTSD. This happened two-and-a-half years ago, the exact same scenario. From what I understand, he drank, and when he drank, he lost it,” she claimed.
As the Fayetteville Observer reported, no charges against the soldier were filed back in 2016 when the authorities responded to a domestic violence call involving Keith and Sarah.
“He was obviously very troubled, and there is nothing in my heart but forgiveness,” De Mirza added.
The investigation is ongoing. Our thoughts are with Sarah’s family and friends.
