A soldier has been kicked out of the military after he stole his colleague’s bank card.
Private Lewis Billam, a British Army soldier, bought FIFA points worth $298 (£216) for his Xbox using the card of Private Megan Martin after he stole it during a party.
According to reports, he purchased three packs of points that cost $99.64 (£71.99) per time on his colleague’s card. The pack offers players 12,000 points that can be used to buy items in the game.
In addition to the packs, Billam also used Private Martin’s card to buy $22 (£16) worth of items from a local garage.
Billam, who served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was only caught when people who attended the party gathered and asked to show their Xbox history.
When Billam showed his account, it became evident that he was the one who used Martin’s card.
Before the Xbox incident, he had also used another colleague’s bank card to purchase $314 worth of items from Tesco.
In 2019, Billiam also asked Lance Corporal Joshua Gibbon if he could borrow his card to buy some cigarettes and drinks. But he purchased something worth $174 and another item that cost $139.
Billam said he ‘sincerely apologized’ for his actions as he pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud.
“The things that I did were not acceptable and I do sincerely apologize,” he told the court.
Bulford Military Court was told that Billam’s excessive alcohol consumption had led him to having almost no money.
Judge Advocate General Alistair McGrigor told him he was to be discharged from the military.
“Soldiers who steal from colleagues undermine the respect and comradeship that is the basis of service life,” he said.
