The tear-jerking scene was captured in China before Wu Yi, a 2-year-old Labrador, got put down because of advanced bone cancer.

The dog’s handler, Ye Huaibin, knelt on the floor and begged the animal doctors to let him stay but he was pulled away by two other officers.

Ye said he found out that Wu Yi was severely ill during a training session as the pooch threw up after biting on a ball. He then checked its mouth and was shocked to discover a huge tumor.

For eight months, Ye took Wu Yi to seek medical attention around the city. “I wanted to try to save it no matter what,” Ye expressed.

The soldier said he could see that Wu Yi was also prepared to fight for its life.

“The way it looked at me – it might be hard for you to understand – was a way for us to communicate. It was saying it also wanted to keep on living,” he said.

But even after four surgeries, Wu Yi’s health didn’t improve and continued to get worse.

According to doctors at the China Agricultural University Animal Hospital, Wu Yi had osteosarcoma, a condition that occurs when the cells that develop new bone form a cancerous tumor.

“I don’t wish it to suffer anymore,” Ye told Dr. Li Gebin. “I cannot bear it.”

Before the Labrador’s euthanasia operation, the soldier held the pooch and repeatedly mentioned its name.

Two officers pulled Ye away as he broke down in tears still calling Wu Yi’s name while trying to look at his pal for the last time.
