In the modern era of science and technology, solutions to different problems are the target of society.
The new generation is coming up with great ideas, and this is what was seen when a young teen presented the solution to every driver’s problem.
We all are well familiar with the blind-spot problem, The spectrum of this problem is broad, as more than 840,000 car accidents occur due to blind spots, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Blind spots in any vehicle can lead to serious property damage and in some cases; even many lives are also compromised.
However, taking precautionary measures such as minor adjustments in driving seat or adjusting side mirrors and backup cameras can somehow contribute to increased safety. Nonetheless, blind spots can make you vulnerable to damage while you are in a vehicle.
Boom! We are lucky enough to have this 14-year young girl, who has proposed a solution to this blind spot problem in cars.
Nature is fantastic; this young kid herself does not have a driving license but has made our lives easy. Alaina Gassler, from West Grove, Pennsylvania, invented this wonderful solution in her project “Improving Automobile Safety by Removing Blind Spots”.
This project was presented by Gassler at the Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology, and Engineering for Rising Stars) competition.
Gassler used simple apparatus to solve the blind spot problem, as she placed a camera behind the a-pillar of a car that sends video to the projector and making pillar invisible and allowing the driver to see behind it.
According to Gassler, “I did that by having a camera behind the a-pillar of a car and the camera sent the video to a projector that projected the image onto the pillar essentially making it invisible and making the driver see behind it.
” The materials used by her included webcam, projector, and 3D-printed materials. No doubt this invention is worth praising and this project let her top in a nationwide competition. She also earned a $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize because of her life-saving idea.
