According to prosecutors, the son beat his father so badly that he was in a coma for months.

Eric suffered brain damage from the incident and is now in a home. His son is accused of attacking him after going to his house to talk to him about a dispute over his dead mother’s fortune.

Heyworth and his brother inherited $1 million each after their mother passed away in 2012. He is alleged to have spent his inheritance on expensive restaurants and hotels. He had also allegedly demanded that his father give him more cash and allow him to move back to their apartment.

Prosecutors revealed that Heyworth went to the apartment and found his father had changed locks. He managed to go inside and attacked his father with the tool.

A neighbor said he heard screams and immediately called police. When police arrived, Heyworth opened the door and they saw a bloodied Eric trying to come out from the bedroom.

Eric said his son had attacked him before he slipped into a coma. Prosecutor Sarah Marquez said to the court: “This defendant tortured and brutalized his own father for hours nearly killing him because of greed.

“He will never be the same man.”

Todd Spodek, Heyworth’s defense attorney, told jurors that Eric was angry his wife had left him $60,000 only compared to the $1 million each their sons received. The defense said that it was Eric who attacked first.
