A son who attacked his father with a hammer to protect his mother has finally been freed from prison.
Ben Wilson was only 22 years old when he battered his ‘violent nasty drunk’ father Craig who had always abused his mother Tracey.
Now 27, he has finally been released from his 6-year-sentence. According to The Mirror, he is now living with his mother in their Teesside home, where the 2015 incident occurred.
Mr. Wilson has since posted some of his photos online, showing him with tattoos on his fingers and stubble.
In 2016, Craig Wilson took his own life while his son served in prison. He sent numerous messages to his brothers before they found his body at his apartment in November.
It was in January 2015 when the father had threatened to cop everyone up. Ben Wilson then used a hammer and hit his father more than five times, leaving him with holes in his face and brain damage.
Craig was found with fractures to his cheekbone, forehead, nose, eye sockets and jaw, and bleed on the brain. His son was then sentenced to 6 years in jail.
Judge Simon Bourne-ARton QC reduced his sentence to six from 12 years due to the ‘nature of the provacation’ Ben Wilson faced.
It was heard that he had only snapped from years of ‘excessive and extreme’ domestic violence at the hands of his dad.
At that time, over 55,000 people signed a petition calling for his release.
One internet user said: “Poor lad looks completely traumatised. I wish him and the rest of the family the very best in the future.”
Another wrote: “Should have got a medal, not prison time. Our justice system in completely screwed up.”
A third commented: “Should never have been locked up. Good luck to him and his mum.”
