While we are sleeping, we are only half aware of the world and our surroundings.
Especially when we have fallen asleep after being too tired.
Something exact same happened to this man who did not realize that he was not sleeping at home but in a boat in the night. The incident turned out to be a great tragedy as the man got down in the lake as he thought he was right at his home.
The incident happened at Georgia Lake in the middle of the night. Jeremiah Israel, a 34 years old man was out at the lake with his 62 years old father.
The two went out to the lake for fishing. They both stayed in the lake all night. After being too tired, they fell asleep right in the middle of the lake.
That is when it happened. In the middle of the night, the father got up without realizing he was in the boat. He got up thinking he is right in his bed and got down in the lake as he wanted to go to the washroom.
To save him from drowning, Jeremiah had to jump into the water too. He was able to save his father but unfortunately could not save himself.
He drowned in the middle of the night. His body was found near the Bridge of West Point Lake at Cameron Mill Road.
Authorities said the two were in a boat in the lake. The father fell in the lake and Jeremiah jumped in too to save his father.
A group of boaters were around 20-30 feet away in the lake. They managed to save the father but were not able to save Jeremiah.
The young man died somewhere in the night between Sunday and Monday.
The father was then taken to the West Georgia Medical Center. After a couple of tests, he was released.
