Those with experience know there is nothing more valuable in the moments before an operation than having your loved ones close.
Sarah, 48, was waiting to have her kidney transplant at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. But nobody in the room knew she was about to get the best surprise she ever could have imagined.
Her son is Carl James, a 21-year-old known for his popular YouTube channel. Carl was living in Germany in 2015 when his mom was scheduled to have her surgery.

Pained by the thought of his mother going through this scary time without his support, Carl decided to fly 4,000 miles to be by her side.
Moments before Sarah would be wheeled into the operating room, Carl walks in.
Sarah is immediately moved to tears, the joy of seeing her boy overwhelming. The look on her face is unforgettable.
Sarah tells her son, “I sat in bed and cried this morning, cause I’m like ‘I didn’t see my boy…’”
Carl uploaded the video of her reaction to YouTube and it immediately went viral.

Their reunion makes me cry and reminds me the moment I was not there for my mother for her surgery. This is such a best surprise!
Carl left a comment after her surgery. “Mum is doing really well! She was super strong and determined to not stay in the hospital, so she worked at walking and eating (something that’s really difficult after surgery of this kind) and she got to leave after 5 days.”
