Souplantation, the restaurant chain that is known by the name Sweet Tomatoes has decided to close its doors permanently after a temporary shut doing during the lockdown.
With the outbreak of coronavirus, the parent company had decided to close all the outlets at 97 locations of the restaurant chain.
But now, the company has made another decision to close the chain permanently. The company is going to lay off its employees as the CEO of Garden Fresh Restaurants John Haywood announced.
He said that the health officials and government and has announced that the buffet and server restraints will not be able to carry out their operations which makes it tough to keep up with the regulations.
The CEO said that they have no idea for how long the regulations are going to stick and undertaking the same, it is impossible for them to get up and run. So, they have decided to close the doors of all the locations permanently.
The 4,400 employees working for the chain around all the locations will be affected by the closedown permanently.
The CEO said that the company has explored all the possible solutions they could implement in order to get the restaurant running once the permission is granted but they run on the concept of Buffet. And the government has ordered restaurants, hotels, and even public to not host any buffets at all.
He also said that the restaurant has been closed for 8 weeks now and has lost about $1 million every single week. If they had taken the takeout option at work, the company would have lost even more amount of money than they were losing already.
The company that started as an unlimited soup and salad buffet back in 1978 will be closing down its doors permanently now after a great run of 42 years.
We are surely going to miss the amazing salads.
