When you live far away from your family, it’s easy to worry and have all sorts of thoughts when they do not pick up the phone.
When Claire Olsen, a 87-year-old who lives in Palm Coast, Florida, did not pick up her phone after Hurricane Matthew hit the region, her family members started to worry.
But they had no means to check if she was ok, since they lived three states away from her – about 1,300 miles apart from each other.
When the news talked about how the storm hit Florida hard, killing nine people, Claire’s family panicked. With the phone lines down, however, there was nothing for them to do.

Three days had passed, and her grandson Eric was getting anxious. He tried getting help from local police officers, but everyone at the department was so overwhelmed with other requests that they could not help Eric.
Sadly, Claire still wasn’t reachable.
That’s when Eric came up with this ingenious method. He called Papa John’s Pizza nearby Claire’s house.
And they answered right away.
So, Eric ordered a pepperoni pizza to be delivered to his grandmother. In the instructions section, Eric had written a special message typed on for his grandmother.
“Please call.. when you get to the house.” He also wrote down his phone number.
Obviously, the deliveryman was surprised to see such an unusual request, but he obliged anyway.
He dialed the number on the instruction when he pulled up in front of Claire’s house, and knocked on the door.
Then, Claire came out from her house – “I didn’t order anything,” said Claire.

As he handed her the pizza and the phone, the deliveryman told her that her grandson did.
And her reaction was priceless!
It turned out that her phone line was damaged due to the hurricane, but she was safe and sound!
