It’s a special kind of person to love critters such as spiders and snakes, sometimes to the point that they’d keep them as pets.
They’re special because most other people would run screaming at the sight of such creatures.
So imagine if you’re like most people and happened to find a spider hitching a ride with you while you were driving. What would you do? In the case of one woman, she’d smash her car into a wall, that’s what.
Police in Cairo, New York uploaded a photo of an unidentified woman’s wrecked car on Facebook, saying that she saw a spider in her car while driving and “panicked.”
Luckily, the woman only suffered a leg injury from the crash although her car had it worse with most of the front caved in from the impact.
The sheriff’s office announced in their post: “Thank you again for the help Cairo Fire, Cairo Ambulance, Greene County Medics, and Greene County Sheriffs.
“After investigating today’s crash on Silver Spur Road we feel it necessary to bring up a contributing factor that is not covered too often. It is believed that the operator of the vehicle noticed a SPIDER in the drivers area with her as she was driving.
“The operator panicked and crashed suffering a leg injury from the crash.”
But the post also urged arachnophobic drivers not to let their fears become life-threatening: “We know that it is easier for some drivers than others but PLEASE, try to teach new drivers and yourselves to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place. Lives depend on it.”
However, sympathetic social media users commented that they totally understand the woman’s reaction.
One wrote: “I almost did the same thing luckily I was where I could pull over. It was in my blouse I never tore a blouse off faster, my husband was with me and he’s yelling ‘what are you doing??’ I’m screaming ‘spider’.
“Anyway it happens and until it happens to you can’t say you wouldn’t do that. I am hoping the lady recovers.”
Another commented: “I have panicked with a spider that came down in front of me, Thankfully I didn’t crash. My daughter’s car, mice found their way in. Now my big fear is a mouse running over me while driving – hoping it never happens! Hope she’ll be ok.”
A third said: “Glad she is ok. That could be me, I’ve had to pull over suddenly and do a search. The fear is real.”
The fate of the spider remains unknown.
