The creator behind Netflix’s hit show ‘Squid Game’ is hitting back at LeBron James after the NBA superstar recently criticized the show’s ending.
Hwang Dong-hyuk didn’t remain silent after news regarding James’ criticism about Squid Game’s ending hit social media. The star player recently mentioned at a press conference with his fellow teammate Anthony Davis how he was not a fan of the show’s ending.
But that led to Hwang firing back at the LA Lakers superstar, questioning the masses regarding whether or not they paid attention to Space Jam 2.
For those who aren’t aware, James starred in the highly anticipated movie which fell short of so many people’s expectations. Let’s not forget how critics referred to it as one of the poorest-reviewed sequels of Space Jam ever.
When Hwang was questioned about the incident by a media reporter, he first giggled and then went on to ask, ‘Have you ever seen Space Jam 2?” Clearly, there was a note of sarcasm which resonated loud and clear by viewers who happened to witness the interview.
But that does not mean Hwang didn’t respect James’ opinion. The 50-year-old screenwriter mentioned boldly how he would not let that cloud overtake the immense amount of respect he had for James.
“He’s a cool guy and he has the right to say whatever he wants. I really respect that. I am very thankful to him for taking out the time and watching the entire series,” he went on to state.
But towards the end, Hwang did speak about how he stands tall and proud by his show’s ending. “I chose to end season one the way I wanted to. I would never change my ending because it’s MY ending,” he stressed.
However, the humor didn’t stop there. The Squid Game creator also cracked a joke in the end, stating how it would be interesting to see what ending James has in mind and if he’s so confident about it, maybe he can begin working on it for the sequel.
