The latest Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is definitely among some of the top hit movies of all time.
Being a massive success at the box office and becoming the third highest-grossing movie ever was not enough so the movie has added three Oscar nominations to its long list of achievements.
Actors Issa Rae and John Cho made their nominations for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards public last Monday morning.
It brings the number of total nominations for the movie to three for Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects.
The Best Original Score nomination has brought sound composer John Williams’ total nominations to a record-breaking 52.
John Williams now has more Oscar nominations than anyone in the history of Oscar Awards. He is ahead by a large margin compared to 22 by Walt Disney and 21 by Meryl Streep.

For the award in Best Sound Editing Category, the movie, which has made just north of a billion dollars will have to ace against Joker, Ford V Ferrari, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917.
In the Best Original Score Category, John Williams will have a fight against Joker’s Hildur Guðnadóttir, Marriage Story’s Randy Newman and Little Women’s Alexandre Desplat.
Star Wars franchise is no doubt a high earning business but they don’t have a good record when it comes to the Oscars, other than the first movie of the series.
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, from 1977, got 10 Oscar nominations but won only six, losing in the major areas it got the nominations for.
It lost the titles of Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay (George Lucas), Best Director (George Lucas) and Best Supporting Actor (Alec Guinness).
The movie was successful to win the awards for Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Original Score.
Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, a sequel released in 1980, got a total of three Oscar nominations and managed to get only one of the awards, for best sound mixing and another special achievement award for the visual effects in the movie.
The trilogy finale Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi, from 1983, got nominated for four awards in total, out of which it couldn’t secure even a single one.
However, it did win a Special Achievement Award for visual effects and that was the last Oscar won by the Star Wars franchise.
