Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling out New York’s officials as the state witnessed a surge in violence rates.
AOC and a number of fellow Democrats from New York are on the move to seek greater funding for a project that entails a program that works against violence.
The news comes as New York City witnessed a massive surge in violent crime rates as many liberal politicians are on the move to tie the hands of the police. Moreover, AOC also took out the time on Thursday to argue how authorities need to focus on the bigger picture if they actually wished to witness a change in the current scenario.
And by that, she means putting a complete end to creating more prisons and focusing on more important aspects such as the issues relating to public health.
For this reason, New York Rep AOC, alongside Senate’s Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, followed by Rep Jamaal Bowman mentioned how they were doing everything in their power to call upon Congress to go over a $400,000 program titled ‘Stand Up To Violence.’
This new initiative will focus upon addressing issues relating to gun violence through the efforts of community outreach as well as counseling too. At that point, Rep AOC mentioned how more and more prisons were being used as recycling bins and that just needed to stop immediately.
“If we wish to stop violent crimes, reduce the number of citizens that enter jails- then the answer is simple. Stop creating more and more jails,” she explained via a public statement on her Twitter account.
The new request from a number of leading Democrats is taking center stage ever since New York City faces a dilemma with a huge spike in incidents relating to gun violence throughout the pandemic.point 287 |
Moreover, statistics also revealed how shootings were up by more than 86% in the month of May and that was worrisome for obvious reasons.point 114 | 1
