A one-of-a-kind bookstore in Canada has gone viral after introducing kittens to give customers the chance to bond with the animals or adopt them while shopping for books.
Nova Scotia-based Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee has come up with an excellent idea of partnering up with a local shelter, the South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia, in order to fill their bookstore with adorable kittens.
As business owner Ellen Helmke revealed according to Global News, the idea was well-accepted by their customers whereas over 30 cats have already been adopted thanks to the initiative.
“People come here specifically to see the cats, and then some people just wander in to look at books and discover there are kittens,” Helmke said.
“We have a hundred percent adoption rate, which is fantastic.”
As the store owner added, the initiative is good for everyone, whereas the customers have the chance to bond and play with the animals while kittens get to socialize and increase their chances of getting adopted.
After the idea went viral, people have applauded the bookstore owner for the creative approach to adoption.
“OMG there are KITTENS at the local bookstore, a WHOLE LITTER of kittens! Ellen, the owner is fostering them. I went in for a local organic coffee and a book and came out with the added bonus of a heavy dose of feline therapy,” someone wrote.
“What a wonderful story. You have to be terrific people for taking in these kittens. I have to make a point of visiting soon. Thank you for what you do,” another one said.
Someone suggested: “This is FANTASTIC!!! What a kind soul you are to help these beautiful cats and kittens find their furever homes.”
