The much-anticipated and controversial ‘Straight Pride Parade’ began in Boston on Saturday.
The parade gathered a huge crowd of supporters and hecklers along with the heavy presence of police.
The parade including thousands of people started around with the song God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood. There were some people that displayed boards supporting President Donald Trump. The signs said ‘Trump Nation, ‘Blue Lives Matter’ and ‘Build the Wall’.
People started planning for “Straight Pride Parade during the LGBT Pride month when the group of Super Happy Fun America gained the permit from the City of Boston after being rejected in the first attempt.
According to James Barrett of Daily Wires, at first, the city rejected the proposal of “Straight Pride”. However, post the group filed complain against discrimination and city granted them permission stating that it cannot deny a group based its beliefs.
Mayor Marty Walsh explained that permed to the public event is offers based on the operational feasibility and not on an institute’s values of beliefs.
Furthermore, initially, the Super Happy Fun America requested that the City Hall hoard “Straight Pride Flad” as it does they held the Gay Pride Flad.
However, his request was rejected as the official said they have exclusive discretion on what flags they hoast outside the City Hall.
The Boston Globe reported that the Saturday parade only attracted a couple of hundreds of marchers who were easily outnumbered by protestors shouting them with accusations of homophobia and bigotry.
The LGBT members said that the parade was a promotion of discrimination instead of actual straight pride.
An activist said that this parade is nothing to do with straight pride rather it is about hating everyone is not them. The parade attracted a lot of criticism since the time it was announced.
