Airports are not places where you want to spend too much time on.
They’re typically crowded so personal space often gets invaded and all the security procedures is a very tedious process. Add to that the number of passengers who typically have some sort of a cough or sniffles and you’re looking at possibly coming down with one yourself.
Unfortunately, one doesn’t always control how much time one gets to stay in an airport. Layovers can stretch hours long but short enough not to justify a hotel stay in the meantime. Or, if your flight gets delayed, you can find yourself staring at the arrival board hoping you make it in time for your connecting flight.
Author and public speaker Kevin Armentrout is no stranger to being at the airport and at one time even had his 16-month-old daughter with him. Having kids around while traveling is challenging but his one experience at the airport with his daughter touched him so much that he had to share it on social media.
To make a long story short, his daughter Carter Jean managed to make a friend by the name of Joseph Wright.
Joseph works as a sales manager in Oklahoma but also carries a heart of gold. And the way he engaged with 16-month-old Carter Jean left Kevin brimming with emotion.
Describing the encounter on Facebook, Kevin wrote:
“Last night, while waiting to board our plane, [Carter Jean] was being her usual inquisitive self wanting to meet and say ‘hi’ to everyone she could, until she walked up on this man,” he wrote.
“He reached out and asked if she wanted to sit with him. He pulled out his tablet and showed her how to draw with it, they watched cartoons together, and she offered him snacks. This wasn’t a short little exchange, this was 45 minutes. Watching them at that moment, I couldn’t help but think, different genders, different races, different generations, and the best of friends. This is the world I want for her.
“In a country that is continuously fed that it’s so deeply divided by beliefs, I want her life to be filled with moments like this… not liberal or conservative republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist, just HUMAN.”
And in an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Kevin shared that he was even more impressed at the patience Joseph displayed to Carter Jean.
“There were a few moments she screamed and tried to get into his work calendar, but he couldn’t care less,” he said.
Kevin’s post soon went viral, gaining over 386,000 likes and more than 153,000 shares. Naturally, the post eventually made its way to Joseph’s friends who were unsurprised by how he acted.
If all strangers were like this, traveling would always be a joy!
