Melissa Simms, a mother of five from Pell City, Alabama, was having the worst day of her life.
On this particular day, Melissa went out with her son, Trey, to go to the doctor’s office for her follow-up appointment.
Having gone through several major surgeries, Melissa’s bank account was almost empty.
And with five kids, Melissa and her husband Caleb was struggling to get through one day at a time.
In fact, right before she left the house, Melissa and Caleb had split the last 10 dollars that they had in their pockets for gas money.
When she finally arrived at the doctor’s office, Melissa panicked.
The medical bill was more than what she had expected – and she didn’t have any money to pay for the expense.

Still, Melissa went in to see the doctor – hoping to do something about it afterwards. And she left her son Trey in the waiting room.
While Trey was sitting by himself, one female patient walked up to him. Trey had never seen her before, but she handed him a sealed envelope. After telling him to give it to his mother, this stranger quickly walked out of the building.
When Melissa returned and got the envelope, she was confused.
She had no idea what was going to be inside the envelope. When Melissa slowly opened it, though, she was completely stunned.
Inside the envelope, there was a $100 bill along with a handwritten note.
On the paper, this stranger wrote:
“I’ve had days like you are having today.
Hang in there. Joshua 1:9.”
Moved by such generous and kind gesture of a complete stranger, Melissa posted her experience on Facebook, which went viral.

In an interview with WBRC News, Melissa said, “I don’t know what she looks like. I don’t know her name, but I hope I get to meet her to say thank you.”
She also added, “It’s the kindest thing that’s ever been done. Truly, from the bottom of my heart, I thank this woman. I would love to repay it and to pay it forward one day, just like she said.”
Stories like this show that there are good people out there – those who are willing to offer help, even to a complete stranger.
