Sometimes, it’s those unplanned moments that make the biggest impacts in our lives whether for better or for worse.
Call them coincidence, serendipity, or a higher power, but one thing is for sure, there is no denying the power of these moments once they happen to you.
Taylor Fisher and her husband, Chris, had this moment happen to them at, of all places, Disney World. The Fishers were on a trip with their son, Oliver, and as they toured around EPCOT they stopped to have a family picture taken at the Eiffel Tower.
The Fishers had their hands full as Oliver was not exactly the most cooperative but two strangers kindly stopped and patiently took a photo of the Fisher family. Both Taylor and her husband thanked the couple who took such a good picture and went on their way.
However, a few minutes later, the couple approached the Fishers again. The man introduced himself as Scott and his wife, Sally, while tears lined his eyes. Scott assured the Fishers that he “wasn’t creepy,” but he had a favor to ask of them.
Scott went on to explain that he and Sally had four children. Three of them were with their grandparents in the park but their fourth, Duke, was having his first birthday in heaven. Duke had passed on in March but would have turned one on July 1, the very same day they happened to meet the Fishers.
Still fresh from the loss of Duke, they couldn’t help but see their son in little Oliver.
As a tribute to Duke’s first birthday, Scott and Sally requested if they could bring Oliver to the Mouse Gear gift shop and go on a shopping spree with him. Taylor admitted that it would normally be wildly inappropriate to let strangers take their son shopping, but something inside of her convinced her that it was the right thing to do.
Taylor wrote: “Through an act of their own generosity, I witnessed a couple begin to heal from the grief and ache of [losing] something so dear.
After they bought him way [too] many toys, we all stopped in the middle of the store…God’s presence was so real and we worshiped and praised him for his ultimate design, for it was only God who could have brought us together.
”As it turned out, Sally had been praying for closure before they ran into Oliver. Sally saw God’s hand and healing in the meeting because simply holding Oliver’s hand and seeing him so happy with the items they bought brought her a sense of peace that signaled the path towards moving on.
Simply put, the circumstances of their meeting could simply be called a miracle. Everyone doesn’t experience happiness at Disney World the same way but this story shows that even in the midst of heart-wrenching grief, God does find a way.
