Heartwarming video of two strangers helping each other finish the line of the Pittsburgh Marathon after seven hours is winning the Internet.
Laura Mazur from Ohio and Jessica Robertson from Pennsylvania never met each other. Both were taking part in Sunday’s Pittsburgh Marathon.
It was Mazur’s 12th marathon and Robertson’s first. They met halfway through the 26.2-mile course and were the last two runners.
The pair decided to help each other finish the race and held hands for the final mile and became each other’s strength.
Daniel Heckert, a runner, who spotted the pair helping each other finish the line, said:
‘I just ran over to grab my phone as they were coming. I just wanted to capture the moment that showed these two ladies were going to finish the same race that [the] winner did.’
‘We often celebrate the winners, but not often does the public get to hear the stories of those at the end,’ Heckert said.
Heckert shared the picture online which instantly went viral.
They were the last two runners and took seven hours to finish the line.
‘I looked back to see if I was the last one and found another racer and a new friend. I told her I’d stay with her if she stayed with me’, Mazur wrote on Facebook.
Robertson told CBS Pittsburgh: ‘It wasn’t about gender, it wasn’t about race, it wasn’t about religion – none of that mattered,’.
‘We were just two individuals, two humans, who had a goal in mind and we leaned on each other to get there.’
