Vanessa, an animal rescuer based in New York feeds and takes care of the cats in the area.
After placing a rescued cat into a forever home, another one came along. “I always joke that there’s a kitty billboard out there that brings these cats to me,” Vanessa told Love Meow.
A torbie cat came to her house in the search of food. The cat was very shy at first and Vanessa was unsure if she was feral but decided to try to win her over.
When she looked at the cat properly, she noticed her pregnant belly. On September 1,2019, the cat who always used to visit at meal time didn’t show up that day. The next day when she came, there was no longer a big belly.
It was very obvious that the cat has given birth but no one knew where are the kittens now. “She was eating up a storm, she had a whole can of wet food at noon and then came yelling for more. I was happy she knew exactly where to find me, and that when she needed me she didn’t hesitate,” Vanessa said.
Vanessa continued to keep the bond stronger with the cat by providing food three times a day. It took cat about a week to trust her and Vanessa told Love Meow, “She was eating and I started to pet her. As time went on, her trust kept growing.”
The mom cat decided to stop hiding her kittens from her caretaker and began to let her follow her to the nest where four little kittens were kept away.
The cat mom started trusting her caretaker more and more with each passing days and if Vanessa was a few minutes late, she would come to the door to get her.
When the cat mom tarted moving her babies to other hiding places outside the backyard, Vanessa intervened and brought them inside a safe home.
“Good news is she knows I handle her babies and she seems okay with it,” Vanessa said. “Everyone is good and settled in for the night.”
