A student who was banned from driving by a UK court due to a crash caused by him in which a woman received grave injuries was seen driving away minutes after the ban was imposed.
20-year-old Saif Shaikh was spotted getting into his Volkswagen following his visit to Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday, May 1, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The teen was pleaded guilty to causing grave injuries by ruthless driving after his vehicle collided with a woman on November 18, last year.
According to the court hearings, the lady was visiting her son at Manchester Royal Infirmary on the day the accident happened.
The case against Shaikh, a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, was adjourned so that a report could be made for his sentencing, but before the hearing, the youngster was banned from driving on the roads by Judge Timothy Smith.
The Manchester Evening News reports Shaikh received a verbal interim disqualification from the judge to which he nodded in acceptance before leaving the court.
But it turned out, the teen totally ignored the court order as he was spotted driving his vehicle just minutes after he was banned.
The teenager, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, got into his car parked at a distance of nearly 50 yards from the court before driving off in a calm manner.
However, it wasn’t long before the teen was arrested by Greater Manchester Police.
In a tweet, GMP confirmed that they had arrested Shaikh and had seized his car with the help of their colleagues from West Yorkshire Police.
“This matter was brought to our attention this afternoon,” GMP wrote on Twitter.
“Us and colleagues @WYP_RPU have worked hard today and this man is now in custody awaiting interview. Vehicle also seized. [sic]
“Thanks to all those assisting us.”
Shaikh’s lawyer asked the judge at the plea and trial preparation hearing to delay his sentencing, currently scheduled at June 14, so he can take his first-year exams.
