A student was left with severe head trauma after getting “beaten and choked” by Meryl Streep’s nephew who allegedly threw anti-Hispanic insults at the teen.
Charles Harrison Streep, the 31-year-old nephew of American actress Meryl Streep, has been accused of beating up a teenage boy and throwing racial slurs at him during a violent road rage attack.
The incident occurred in East Hampton, New York, where Streep reportedly got into a fight with 18-year-old David Peralta just outside a local Chase bank on August 24.
According to the reports, Streep made a U-turn and confronted the teen after the two had a near miss while crossing The Circle and Main Street intersection.
After the 31-year-old approached David, the pair allegedly exchanged a few words before things took a nasty turn.
In the criminal complaint, Streep has been accused of “striking, grabbing and lifting [David] off the ground by the neck with his arms” before “throwing him to the ground.”
Reportedly, the 31-year-old also “spewed racial epithets during the attack.”
After the incident, Streep had left the scene but was eventually found and arrested by the police. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery due to suffering severe head trauma.
As Peralta’s attorney, Edmond Chakmakian, insisted, the attack left his client unable to recall simple things such as his date of birth.
“He couldn’t even give me his date of birth when I spoke to him the other day,” the lawyer said as she claimed Peralta will likely be left with permanent cognitive damage.
According to Chakmakian, they will be pushing for the 31-year-old to be charged with hate crime over the road rage attack.
Following Streep’s arrest, the police have released a statement in which they confirmed that the 31-year-old has been charged with “Assault 2nd degree” and “Strangulation 2nd degree.”
The East Hampton Village Police Department also confirmed that the defendant was “released on $5,000.00 bail to appear at a later date.”
