A 20-year-old student who weighed around 30 stones successfully shed more than half of his weight, becoming entirely unrecognizable in just a year.
Kaya Tuncar, a student at the University of Manchester, was assumed to be somebody new when he met his lecturers after his incredible transformation.
Kaya, who belongs to Manchester, started gaining weight during his university as he was consuming too many takeaways, bacon sandwiches and cheese toasties.
He finally started thinking about weight loss techniques after he felt a pain in his chest. Under the guidance of his mother, he then followed the 1:1 Diet introduced by Cambridge Weight Plan.
Kaya’s mom, Michelle, had successfully lost six stones by following the diet and that’s why she took her son to pursue the same scheme.
“I used to binge eat, to the point where I wouldn’t eat in public,” said the young man. “My biggest things were cheese sandwiches or toasties – basically anything involving cheese and bread.
“But being so overweight left me unhappy and I knew my mom was worried about me too. But losing all the weight gave me such a confidence boost.”
He added: “When I returned to uni, I kept getting asked if I was a new student – people just didn’t recognize me.
“I was so impressed by my mom, and I knew that she’d struggled with her weight – but she lost 12 pounds at her first weigh-in.”
The 20-year-old claimed that a successful weight loss experiment by his mom was what inspired him to follow the same plan.
He said: “It made me more determined, seeing my mom lose the weight and stick to it – the fact we were family, and could see each other’s results spurred us both on.”
Michelle, 46, who previously weighed 20st wasn’t much willing about losing her excess weight either but an incident entirely changed her way of thinking.
She met an accident and had to get her knee replaced just because of her excessive weight. It was what made her to transform herself.
Speaking of her tedious journey from 20st to 14, she said: “I’m so proud of my self and my son. We both stuck to it rigidly, but my biggest achievement was going from a size 24 to a size 14.
“My bad eating habits didn’t help Kaya – my biggest downfall was takeaway and pizza, and on a weekend, I’d have lager too.”
She added: “At one point, I was drinking six litres of Pepsi Max a day. But together we literally just changed our diet, and walked our dogs, Mani and Butcher.
“Now we get to do talks and inspire others – I’m so proud of us both.”
“It seemed quite a strange thing, having a son and mom lose weight together and I think that’s why we’re asked to do talks and things like that,” she added.
“Because what we achieved has been so inspiring. Kaya had gone from a moth to a butterfly. Before, it was like my son had gone.
“Seeing him lose the weight, he’s like my hero – I never thought he could do it.”
