A teenage girl has opened up about her relationship with an older man as she revealed her family has disowned her because of her love story.
19-year-old Selma Teichmann is a student from Germany who never thought she would fall for a man old enough to be her father.
The young woman first met 52-year-old Maik Lier when they started working together over one year ago. Though she didn’t think much of their initial conversations, she fell in love with him “bit by bit” until they became inseparable.
“For Maik it was love at first sight and after a few days, he sent me a friend request on Facebook. Then he started writing to me. At the beginning I didn’t answer a lot of his emails,” Selma admitted.
“He was very stubborn and continued writing to me every day. Step by step, I opened up to him and we wrote messages about anything and everything.
“While we were writing to one another, I fell in love with him and his feelings grew stronger. But at first, I hid my feelings, because I wouldn’t admit it to myself.”
While Maik and Selma remain convinced they were meant for each other, things haven’t been easy for them due to their families trying to get between them and separate them because of their age gap.
“For half a year, we hid our relationship. Our family connection is problematic – currently I live with Maik, because they don’t accept our relationship and try to keep us apart,” the disowned teenager added.
“Maik has no contact with his family. His best friend and my friends accept our relationship. My family is the most difficult thing for us; they don’t accept Maik and this has destroyed the contact between them and me.”
As the 19-year-old argued, they are trying to break the stigma around their age gap by coming clean about their love for each other publicly.
The couple also revealed they are getting ready to take their relationship to the next level by officially moving in together and starting their own family.
“Love has no age, no limits, no labels. Love is love. No matter what they think or say. Everybody has the right to be in love,” Selma concluded.
