A 5-year-old boy with brain condition received a doll with surgery scars by a group of second-graders.
Payton Haynes from Florida was born with craniosynostosis – a condition in which one or more of the sutures close too early, causing problems with normal brain and skull growth, according to Columbia University Department of Neurology.
He underwent two brain surgeries and has surgery scars.
His mother, Kristin Haynes told GMA: “For my little boy, there is nothing out there that just looks like him. I thought it’d be amazing for him to look down and see something that reflects himself.”

And, a group of the second-graders at Cracker Trail Elementary School in Sebring decided to do something special for the little boy.
The group raised $500 for two families.
The second-graders bought a doll with surgery scars from “A Doll Like Me” and gifted it to Payton.
“A Doll Like Me” is a non-profit organization founded by Amy Jandrisevits who was ‘disappointed in the lack of diversity in dolls’.
Amy’s custom doll for Payton was gifted to him by the second-graders at Cracker Trail Elementary School on May 24, 2019.
His mother Kristin Haynes told GMA: “He said, ‘He looks just like me. He loved it, and the first thing he did was take the doll’s shoes off because Payton doesn’t like to wear shoes.”
He named the doll Payton Lee Jr.
His mother thanked the kind students and their teachers for such a thoughtful gift.
