Sometimes, among all the news stories, there are few stories that makes one wonder how something like that could have happened in the first place.
The story of a 55 year old man rescued by the Spanish Coast Guard while dressed in full dress is one of those stories.
The coast guard has identified this man as one of the passengers aboard a cruise ship who fell into the ocean. The only reason that he was able to sustain himself was by floating on a surfboard. Where he got the surfboard has not yet been reported.
So far, local media sources have reported this man as British. Many specific details related to the accident, including how this man fell into the ocean, which cruise ship he was onboard prior to the accident and the exact details related to the survivor is not yet clear.
It is likely that more details regarding this incident will only become clearer when the survivor starts speaking. After being rescued from the open sea, the man was immediately sent to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his hypothermia.
The Spanish coast guard rescued the man near the coast of Costa del Sol. It is famous for its world-renowned resort city of Marbella. Those onboard a nearby yacht who happened to be passing by saw the drifting man and alerted the authorities.
The news of rescue was broke out via the Coast Guard’s Twitter post, in which the authorities disclosed that Salvamar Vega rescued a man 10 miles off the coast of Marbella. The information that he had fallen off a cruise ship was given to the guards by the man himself.
Although it will take further investigation, some online have already begun circulating possible explanations. While most believe that the man found the surfboard out of sheer luck, others hypothesized that the man may have voluntarily jumped off the deck with the board.
As to why the man fell off from a cruise ship is also a mystery. Although it is much likely that it was a result of a particularly large wave or wind, people being pushed off ships while out in the open ocean is not unheard of.
