A foodie has been praised for her creativeness after sharing photos of her newest creation – a sushi-style birthday cake.
Connie Cao is a food enthusiast and lifestyle blogger from Melbourne, Australia, who frequently shares glimpses from her life with her fans on Instagram.
Recently, the young woman also managed to surprised her followers by sharing photos of her sushi birthday cake and a video detailing the process behind its creation.
“Why have birthday cake when you can have sushi cake. As you know I love my sushi, so this year I decided to step up my cake game & celebrate birthday week with a homemade sushi cake!” the girl wrote in one of her posts.
“I had so much fun putting this cake together with my sister and decorating it with handpicked flowers from my garden.”
Instead of typical sponge cake, the foodie used layers of rice to form the base of her cake and two additional layers. In between the hardened rice layers, she also placed a series of toppings including what appears to be chopped shallots, crab sticks, sesame seeds, and seaweed.
To decorate her creation, Connie made use of edible flowers, sashimi, and various vegetables cut into floral shapes.
After her unusual birthday cake went viral, the Aussie was quickly praised for her creativity whereas some users suggested the cake was simply too beautiful to eat.
“Incredible! I think I’ll be having 2 cakes this birthday, one sushi one and 1 chocolate!” someone wrote.
“I never knew that this is something I wanted, but I want it. Looks so yum,” another one said.
Someone wrote: “This is literally the best cake I’ve ever seen – so impressed.”
