Drunk driving is a serious offense throughout the world not just because it is against the law but because alcohol takes over the control of our minds and we tend to forget that we are driving a car in the real world and the real streets where we have to be extremely careful because even the slightest of the mistake can cause a major accident.
To make this rule even stricter, Taiwan is considering imposing a death penalty for the same.
On Thursday the cabinet approved draft amendment presented for the code of crime that stated that accidental death by a drunk driver would not be taken as an accident but as murder if the incident is declared as an international affair.
The amendment is due for Parliamentary approval till now but the same has come out of a number of deaths which have drunk driving their prime reasons. These are some outraged cases that the amendment was followed after.
Till now, the highest punishment for such accidents is still 10 years for the driver in jail. This new proposal that is yet to be passed by the parliament asks for increased and severe punishment for the driver who had committed the same mistake twice within a period of five years.
A case that happened in January, a 40 years old male that was driving a minivan crashed in a taxi and killed 3 people. He also injured two other people excluding him in the incident. He was intoxicated when the accident happened.
China has imposed the death penalty for drunk drivers and the same has also been implemented in some states of the USA.
In the years 2014, a man from Texas was driving while he was typically drunk. He had no conscious and crashed the entry of a crowded lane where he killed about 4 people and injured a few as well. The man was not punished with a death penalty but he has been sentenced for life imprisonment.
