The Taliban have issued a threatening warning comprising of unspecified consequences if President Joe Biden plans on extending the deadline of troops withdrawal from Afghanistan.
As of now, the deadline remains August 31st for the complete evacuation of foreign civilians as well as troops. However, some local media reports claim that the Biden administration may need to extend that particular deadline which is coming nearer by the second.
If things do go according to plan, all of the US troops should be out of Afghanistan by late next week, where the country is already being controlled by the Taliban.
But keeping in mind the current unfolding crisis, Biden has reportedly mentioned several calls to extend that deadline with time running out. As of today, thousands of civilians continue to remain in a helpless and stranded position as they await their rescue in the country’s capital.
After the report going viral, the Taliban have issued a public statement about how there will be no tolerance for any extension of troops in their country and that the US should be prepared for consequences if they plan on doing so.
The statement was recently made by the spokesperson for the Taliban who goes by the name Dr.point 190 | Suhail Shaheen.point 204 |
He allegedly told Sky News that the Taliban consider the last day of this month as the red line.point 78 | And if that is not met, then that means that the US plans on extending their occupation, adding how there was certainly no need for something like that.point 203 | 1
“If the US or the UK wish to seek additional time so that they can go about continuing their evacuations, then the short answer to that question is a no,” he added. Instead, he boldly warned of the consequences of doing something like that.
Shaheen also spoke about an extension in the deadline would also result in the creation of mistrust between the US and UK with the Taliban. “If they wish to continue with their occupation, then they must be prepared to provoke a reaction,” he concluded.
