A lot of couples who are in love like to proclaim their “everlasting” love for each other. And that’s why some even go so far as to have the name or face of their boyfriend or girlfriend tattooed on them because nothing says “forever” like a tattoo, right?

Unfortunately, break-ups are a reality in human relationships so once you’ve decided to go your separate ways, you now have a stark reminder of your former lover and it just makes moving on that much more difficult.

That was the case of 41-year-old Trung Tadashi, from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He had already broken up with his girlfriend but had a giant tattoo of her face along with her name on the inside of his arm. Definitely not something that he would want there especially if he wants to get into another relationship.

Fortunately, there are tattoo artists who specialize in covering up existing tattoos. In Trung’s case, the cover-up was performed by Federico Cornetto. And the solution he came up with was brilliant. He transformed the face of Trung’s ex-girlfriend into a samurai warrior and at the end of it all, the old tattoo is nowhere in evidence at all.

The speed-up video shows the whole process that Federico undertook and highlights the attention to detail and steady hand that made the fearsome samurai come out. Like any form of art, the tattoo artists first drew lines and sketches so that he knows what areas need to be covered and how the artwork should take shape.

Next, we see the new tattoo slowly taking form. The image of the ex-girlfriend is still prominent at first but as Federico slowly applies different shades and lines, the old tattoo slowly disappears until it’s replaced with the frowning face of the samurai.
